My Personal Goals For 2019

2018 is almost over and so we are about to start a new year again. 2019 will be the first full year in which my Dutch FIRE Journey will continue. To start the year well, I have set a number of goals for myself that I want to achieve in 2019. I do this according to the Work, Rest & Play method. In my last blog I explained to you how you can set your goals. So if you are not familiar with this method yet, read the blog.

In short, the work, rest & play method means that you set goals for yourself in the field of work, yourself and fun things. Together these 3 categories form the goal setting triangle. This triangle must be in balance because together this forms your life as a whole. So far a short explanation about this method, now it’s time to share my goals with you!

My work goals for 2019

  • Committing to blogging on Dutch FIRE Journey
  • Make an income/investment report every month for Dutch FIRE Journey
  • Write 50 blogs for Dutch FIRE Journey (at least 4 every month)
  • Challenge me and get out of my comfort zone to find challenges in my daily job

So these are my work goals for next year. As you may know, I have a full-time job next to blogging. I work as an online marketer at a fashion store. And for next year I want to challenge myself more. I tend to always go for the safe choice and not always challenge myself well. Next year I therefore want to get more out of my comfort zone and take on more challenging activities.

The other work goals are mainly focussed on this blog. 2019 is gonna be an important year for me. I really want to commit myself to this blog, so I made a goal of 50 blogs for 2019. This means I need to write a blog almost every week. I think this is reasonable, so we will see how that goes. Besides that, I think it’s important to write an income/investment report every month for this blog. I think that it gives a personal touch to this blog and it makes me accountable to you guys to eventually reach my FIRE goals.

My work goals don’t contain many analytical numbers yet. It’s now difficult to name some figures because I have just started blogging. I would like to do so for 2020 because I then have a benchmark to set goals.

My rest goals for 2019

  • Lose weight to around 12% body fat, with a weight around 80-85 kilos
  • Become the best version of myself ever physicially
  • A minimum of 5,000 steps per day for at least 30 days
  • Have at least € 5,000 on my savings account
  • Have at least € 3,600 invested in index funds
  • Have the opportunity to pay the health insurance for 2020 in 1x (around € 1,000) with 2-5% discount at the end of 2019.
  • Read 12 books

Well these are quite a few personal goals. My goals are mainly focused on losing weight and of course saving & investing money. First of all, I want to become the best version of myself and therefore lose weight to a weight of about 80-85 kilos. Then I expect to have a body fat percentage of around 12%. This means I have to lose around 10-15 kilos while maintaining my muscle mass. Besides that, I want to do a 30 day challenge, where I will be walking 5,000 steps at minimum every day. I’m curious what it will do with my body, my health, and my energy levels. Currently, my average steps per day are around 2,000, blame the fulltime job ;).

Then the most important goals, I want to invest at least €3,600 this year. I have already shared my investment strategy with you and I only invest in index funds, so I will continue to do so in 2019. In addition, I want to open a separate savings account at Leaseplan Bank in 2019 and have €5,000 on it at the end of 2019. So I have a nice emergency fund for when something happens. Ultimately, this should grow to €10,000, but that is a nice goal for 2020. Finally, I want to read 12 books in 2019, so that amounts to 1 book per month. I like to read books, but I have to make time for it. I like to read non-fiction books in the field of personal finance & marketing. I will also keep you informed about this!

My play goals for 2019

  • Do more fun things with old friends
  • Go to at least 8 dance parties
  • Take at least 1 party during the Amsterdam Dance Event
  • Go on holiday to America with my girlfriend
  • Go on holiday to Ibiza with my best friend

So these are the goals that will make me excited for 2019. First of all I want to do more fun things with my old friends. I don’t see them that much, because we are all very busy. But I want to make more time for this and really put in the effort.

I also want to go to at least 8 dance parties in 2019. I love house music and together with my best friend we love to go to parties. I don’t know which parties I want to go right now, but I think that there will be some festivals in the summer. In Oktober, we have the Amsterdam Dance Event in the Netherlands, which means that there are hundreds of parties spread over 5 days in Amsterdam. Unfortunately, I didn’t wend to ADE this year, but my goal is to go to at least 1 party next year.

I also love to travel, so these are important goals as well. First of all, I want to go to America with my girlfriend. Actually, we are going to America in February, so the first goal of this list is already achieved ;). We will go to Florida and I’m excited about that! Besides that, I want to go to Ibiza with my best friend. As I said, we love to party so Ibiza is the place to be. We went there this year for just 4 days and we want to go in 2019 as well, for at least 5 days.

It’s the first time that I set goals like this and be publishing them on this blog I hope I will be more determined to reach those goals.
